LEAP has impacted more than 300 educators and 3,000 students, from across Metro Detroit (Detroit, Flint, Harper Woods, Highland Park, and River Rouge); 200 educators and 6,000 students in San Antonio, Houston and Corpus Christy, Texas; and 60 educators and 700 students in Greenwood and Rolling Fork, MsS.

We partner with schools and districts to develop sustainable support systems for continuous performance improvement, teacher and school leader development, and performance evaluation reform.

We have also engaged in university partnerships that help to prepare educators for certification and career ladder growth.

Teacher and School Leader Grant Supports:
  • Facilitated framework creation of a district vision, mission, and core values for restructuring and sustainability protocols.
  • Align the campus/district improvement plans with a mission, vision, and core values that improve student growth, as well as increase and sustain enrollment, and parent/community engagement. 

 

LeFlore Legacy Academy - Greenwood, MS and South Delta Schools - Rolling Fork, MS

  • Implement a high-quality evaluation system to drive targeted professional development and increase educator effectiveness
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure alignment of standards, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and grading and reporting practices.

 

Grow Your Own - Leadership

The Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) provides a state-approved, alternative route to school administrator certification in Michigan and has partnered with Davenport University to provide the state-approved coursework for certification.
Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP). It is the state’s first and longest-running alternative route to earning a PK-12 administrator certificate.
MASA is authorized through the Michigan Department of Education to issue Administrator Certificates with a Central Office Endorsements using an alternate pathway to certification.

MTTC Tutoring Support

A total of six (6) candidates have attended an 8-week tutoring support for preparation for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification.

 

Mentoring Support

We have worked with districts to develop the Mentoring Processes. Districts have adopted a two (2) tier process:
Every mentee will have a weekly check-in with their mentor to review lesson plans, and classroom management strategies, and receive feedback based on mentor support.
Select mentees will receive individual one-on-one support based on classroom observations.

Grow Your Own- Teachers

All districts applied for Future Proud Michigan Educator - $555 million to support Future Proud Michigan Educator (Future PME) programs in fiscal year 2023.

Innovative Arts-Integration

Using creative expression through digital storytelling, animation creation, and musical theater performance.
We engaged 30 Metro-Detroit educators, 3,000 students, and 10,000 community participants. Participants create 150 educational animations and 90 standards-aligned lesson plans, establishing a permanent digital repository for nationwide dissemination through the Smithsonian Learning Lab. The project's replication protocols enable implementation across diverse educational contexts, while community engagement components foster broader literacy. The seminar methodology employs experiential learning through performance arts, animation creation, and collaborative scholarship that transforms abstract constitutional concepts into personally meaningful and intellectually compelling educational experiences.

The Local Education Agency Partnership, Inc. (LEAP) was awarded $2.5 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Education, American History and Civics Seminars grant project.

“IN-TOON with DEMOCRACY:
History Has Its Eyes on You”

This 36-month innovative initiative will be implemented in six Metro-Detroit school communities from October 2025 to September 2028. LEAP will work with 30 public school history, vocal music, and theatre teachers and engage approximately 1,000 students each year.

LEAP will facilitate monthly seminars on American history and civics in honor of the 250th Anniversary (Semiquincentennial) of the United States of America.The project combines constitutional principles education with creative expression through digital storytelling, animation, and musical theater, bringing founding narratives and constitutional government concepts to life through scholarly inquiry and artistic innovation.
